More than 70 professionals from leading environmental, health and safety companies attended for the first time the presentation of the I SENTIATECH Congress in Madrid

- Expert entities such as the National Centre for Environmental Health of the Carlos III Health Institute, the Directorate General for Water of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO), the State Research Agency (AEI), the National Centre for Food Technology and Safety (CNTA), Simetría Grupo, the ITENE Research Centre and the Ecogestiona radio attended the presentation of the I SENTIATECH Congress in the framework of the II Meeting of the platform held on 28 November 2024 in Madrid.
SENTIATECH, the Spanish technological platform in advanced technologies for pollutant detection, safety prevention and environmental monitoring, held its II Meeting last 28th November 2024 in Madrid, Spain.
The event was attended by more than 70 professionals, and brought together leading experts in the fields of early detection, measurement and control of chemicals, pathogens and emerging pollutants, as well as the development of new safe and sustainable chemical products. During the course of the meeting, various presentations and moments of debate were held where attendees were able to connect with the public administration regulating the platform’s fields of action.
During this meeting, the first General Assembly of Members of the SENTIATECH Platform was also held, where the objectives and milestones achieved during the year 2024, next steps, as well as the official presentation of the I SENTIATECH Congress were presented.
Among the speakers who shared valuable information with the attendees in the first part of the programme were Francisco José Vea, President of the Governing Council of the SENTIATECH Platform and Director of Innovation and New Technologies at Simetría Grupo, Carmen Sánchez, Technical Secretary of the SENTIATECH Platform and Technical Director at the ITENE Research Centre, Javier Martínez, Environmental Journalist and Director of the radio programme on economy and environment Ecogestiona, who participated in the opening of the meeting, María Ángeles Ferre, Head of the Scientific-Technical Thematic Programmes Subdivision at the State Research Agency (AEI), who highlighted the role of technology platforms as a driving force for innovation and technological cooperation in Spain, and Carlos Fito, Technical Secretary of the SENTIATECH Platform and Manager of Safety and Environmental Monitoring Technologies at the ITENE Research Centre, and Pablo Ibáñez, Head of the SENTIATECH Platform, who gave a presentation on the milestones of the platform in 2024 and its next steps.
In the second part of the programme, Ana Isabel Cañas, Director of the National Centre for Environmental Health at the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII), discussed the main challenges in research and legislation facing environmental sanitation and health, Paloma Crespo, Head of the Water Quality Control and Surveillance Area of the Directorate General for Water of the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), presented the challenges and legislative advances in the water cycle, and Cristina Garrido, Head of Food Safety and Training at the National Centre for Food Technology and Safety (CNTA), discussed the trends and technological challenges in the water cycle, Cristina Garrido, Head of Food Safety and Training at the National Centre for Food Technology and Safety (CNTA), spoke about the technological trends and challenges to guarantee food safety in industry.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the companies on the SENTIATECH Platform’s Governing Council, made up of AGQ Labs, Aqualia, Eurofins, Global Omnium, Kunak Technologies, Labaqua, Laboratorios Tecnológicos de Levante, Simetría Grupo and Unimat Prevención.
The event provided an insight into the upcoming technological challenges and regulatory trends faced by professionals and entities belonging to the agri-food industry, the chemical industry, health, environmental and food analysis laboratories, as well as clinical laboratories, water cycle companies, occupational risk prevention, air quality and manufacturers of nanoparticles and advanced materials.
The ultimate goal of the platform has been to provide key data and in-depth reflections that contribute not only to collective knowledge, but also to the advancement of legislation and technology for a safer and more sustainable world for all. This annual meeting point seeks to provide a joint strategic response to the new social and technological challenges arising from the need to ensure the development of robust solutions in the industrial environment.
