More than 220 experts from 15 countries gathered in Valencia for the I SENTIATECH Congress, Europe's largest event on the detection, measurement and control of emerging risks

On 21 and 22 October 2025, Valencia became an international meeting point with the celebration of the I SENTIATECH Congress: Detection, Measurement and Control of Emerging Risks, which brought together 224 professionals from 15 countries and featured 99 scientific presentations and 28 posters (after receiving more than 140 scientific abstracts). The congress, which received institutional support from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE) of the Valencian Regional Government and Valencia Innovation Capital (Valencia City Council), was held at the Las Naves and La Harinera complex.

The meeting, organised by the SENTIATECH Technology Platform, with the support of its Technical Secretarythe ITENE Research Centre, brought together the forefront of science, technology and industry to address the challenges of detecting, measuring and controlling emerging risks to human health and the environment, and was sponsored by leading entities such as Simetría Grupo, Eurofins Environment Testing Spain, Global Omnium, Laboratorios Tecnológicos de Levante, Captoplastic, ProtoQSAR and Sensactive Technology.

The opening ceremony was attended by prominent figures from the scientific, political and institutional spheres, as well as representatives of the conference organisers, including Marián Ferre, Head of the Scientific and Technical Programmes Subdivision of the State Research Agency (AEI)Julio Delgado, General Director of Industry at the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism of the Valencian Regional GovernmentDavid Rosa, CEO of Valencia Innovation Capital; and Francisco José Vea, President of the Governing Council of the SENTIATECH Platform and Director of Innovation and New Technologies at Simetría Grupo.

An international meeting for technological exchange and collaboration in the face of a global challenge

The I SENTIATECH Congress was created with the aim of becoming the leading international meeting point for knowledge exchange and technological collaboration in the management of emerging risks related to pollutants that affect the water cycle and ecosystems, such as microplastics, nanoplastics and PFAS, food safety and sensory technologies in agri-food value chains, and the safe and sustainable design of new chemical products under the European SSbD framework. Over two days, a rigorous technical-scientific programme was rolled out with presentations, parallel sessions and poster exhibitions, featuring international experts, public administrations, research centres, universities, start-ups and cutting-edge companies.

The more than 140 scientific abstracts presented included cutting-edge research advances in sensors, biotechnology, artificial intelligence applied to monitoring, safe materials, risk assessment and the circular economy.

These figures consolidate the I SENTIATECH Congress as a strategic event at a key moment for Europe: with the regulatory framework promoted by the European Commission, the digitisation of monitoring systems and the major challenges of environmental health, this meeting offers tangible answers for industry, research and administration.

The involvement of public bodies, as well as the scientific and business sectors, reinforces the cross-cutting nature of the event, which brings together all key players, from research to the market, to foster cross-sector relationships, networking and international collaboration, and to develop technological, scientific and regulatory responses to emerging health and environmental risks.
